Be an Early Childhood Advocate

You have a say in promoting sound public policies and sustaining funding to ensure that young children have access to quality programming, which enhances early development and optimal well-being.  Being an early childhood advocate is a way for anyone, regardless of political affiliation, to shine a light on issues concerning young children and families and their importance to parents, teachers and entire communities.  There are many ways to become involved in Just Kids' advocacy efforts:
 

Attend a Rally, Visit or Event

Just Kids staff members frequently interact with legislators in Illinois through participating in rallies, visiting legislators at their local and Springfield offices and attending special events put on by other advocating agencies.  Individuals affiliated with Just Kids (parents, grandparents, supporters) are welcome to attend these events with us to share their stories and concerns with their legislating officials.  Click here if you are interested or would like more information about this opportunity.

Identify Your Legislators and Ask Appropriate Questions

Know who is representing your area (look up Illinois Legislators by clicking here) and being a dialogue.  Contact your representatives via letters, email or in person and ask what efforts are being made to help young children and families.  Utilize these resources:

• Voices for Illinois Children - Look through what's listed on their Early Childhood Education page to learn about the issues that are relevant now.
• Ounce of Prevention Fund - Take a look at their tools and resources page, paying close attention to the article, "The Do's and Don't of Effectively Engaging Legislators."
